The Rhetorical Situation, Feb. 12, 2010

On today's Rhetorical Situation, Jacob and I fill your ears with love songs from Gossip, Portugal. The Man, The Magnetic Fields, and Howlin' Wolf. You can also hear my story about being nearly run down in a parking lot, and Jacob and I lament the lack of compassion on Facebook.

Oh, and, of course, we give you the usual 30 seconds of dead air right before the first song.

Josh Keady- Unnumbered entry: Car accident, step one

I was sitting in line at Dutch Bros. in Corvallis today when something caught my eye:

Josh Keady- Entry thirty-four point three (34.3): The big, huge iPad entry: Part 3 of 3

Josh Keady- Unnumbered entry: We dislike fixing the unexpectedly broken.

I went out this morning and diagnosed the broken shift lever in the Chevy truck.  Diagnosis: broken. ;)

Josh Keady- Unnumbered entry: Out for a ride.

Ran to campus and dropped off some work today, then took a little mid-morning moto ride.

Josh Keady- Unnumbered entry: Well no duh.

I’m reading a little article from the AP about Amtrak losing about $32 for every passenger that rides on its trains.  Now I’m no economist, but I’m not an idiot either.  Why don’t people ride on Amtrak?

Josh Keady- Entry thirty-three: Welcome (back), Microsoft. Seriously.

When IBM introduced the PC (yeah, like, a computer named “PC”, not just the personal computer), Apple ran a full page ad in the Wall Street Journal that could best be described as, well, snarky.  It looked like this:

Josh Keady- Entry thirty-two: Things I like

Josh Keady- Unnumbered entry: An imperfect tool

I spend hours every day on a computer. I make money with it. I interact with friends. I learn and experience with it. And yet it's still imperfect. Very imperfect.
